Arriving for your procedure
Admission Confirmation
It is important to confirm your details including the date and time of Admission, your procedure and your expectations relating to discharge and post discharge care prior to your Admission. You will usually be contacted by the admissions team in the afternoon prior to your Admission to discuss this with you.
Before speaking with the Administration staff, please ensure you have the following information ready as applicable to you:
- Name and contact details of your next-of-kin and a second local contact person
- Name and contact details for the person who will be taking you home after your procedure
- Name and contact details of your General Practitioner
- Medicare card
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs card
- Pension card
- Health Care card
- Safety Net or Concession card
- Private health insurance membership card
- Health history and a list of current medications and allergies
Fasting
Fasting details will be advised the day prior to your Admission by our day surgery staff or your Doctor.
Smoking
It’s advisable to refrain from smoking a minimum of twelve hours prior to your surgery or procedure. We suggest you speak with your doctor prior to your procedure.
Medications
It is at times recommended to cease some medications prior to your procedure, please speak with your doctor in relation to any medications, supplements and weight loss medications you are currently taking. You will also be advised what medications to cease during your pre-admission nurse call.
Visitors & Carers
Visitors & Carers are not permitted into the theatre or recovery area however once you have been recovered after your procedure a staff member will often escort you safely to your carer. For Children admissions under 18 years of age, parents are permitted in recovery when your child is awaking after their procedure.
